Art: PHOTO MANIPULATION

CSUF – Adobe CS6 Layering and Burning – 2014

Ms. Kemble individually cut and layered all of the images in the background from Pin-Up Girl Posters to create a wallpaper-like effect. The image in the foreground, an editorial print of a model scraping at wallpaper, was burned away in areas to reveal the background collage.

Break Out

About: Women trying to break the societal mold of beauty that has been imposed on them for generations. This is depicted by the tearing away of the wallpaper which represents years of preconceptions about a women’s beauty being torn away and redefined. The scar on the model’s face is another representation of something unacceptable and ugly becoming beautiful. The editorial look of the piece further imposes the idea that a woman’s beauty has been, and continues to be, exploited and defined by printed and digital media, and that women are constantly at odds with those preconception outwardly and inwardly.
